Experts call it the “miracle water” … Here’s how hypochlorous acid can revolutionize household cleaning
Despite their known health hazard, chemical cleaners such as bleach and Lysol have dominated the market for years. Almost every American home has them, unaware or ignoring the real danger of being exposed to these harmful chemicals.
Even those that are being advertised as “green” or “natural” may contain ingredients that can compromise your health and your family. Some can even be corrosive or flammable!
With the current public health situation, we need to sanitize and disinfect more often. This means that we expose ourselves to toxic chemicals even more!
But, what if there’s another way? What if we can disinfect without risking our health and our family?
The answer is HYPOCHLOROUS ACID!
Hypochlorous acid is the same substance your white blood cells produce to fight infection and promote healing. It is a weak acid that occurs naturally in our body.
When there’s an invading pathogen, such as bacteria and viruses, neutrophils are the first to arrive on site. They will then chase down and engulf the germs.
Upon contact, neutrophils release their most powerful oxidizing agent, HOCl. This tears down the cell membranes and proteins of the pathogen, inactivating or killing it.
"The hypochlorous acid is able to breach the cell walls of pathogens," said Mary Ostrowski, director of Chlorine Issues in the Chlorine Chemistry Division of the American Chemistry Council.
Both bleach and hypochlorous acid are used in hospitals and medical practices. They are also shown to be both effective against bacteria, fungus, spores, and viruses.
However, bleach is a strong irritant to the eyes, skin, and lungs—and inhalation over long periods could lead to cancer! On the other hand, hypochlorous acid does NOT have a lingering smell, irritating properties, nor any adverse health effects!
Hypochlorous acid is not better than bleach. It is WAAAAAYYYYY better! In fact, it delivers 300 times more disinfecting capacity than bleach.
What this means is that you will need to use so much more bleach to achieve the anti-microbial power of hypochlorous acid. HOCl is a much efficient anti-microbial than bleach, so you achieve significantly more with less.
Despite the fact that hypochlorous acid hits hard on germs, it is 100 percent safe for humans and pets! It is non-toxic, non-irritating, and non-corrosive.
Potency and gentleness rarely go together, but that’s not the case in hypochlorous acid.
Can HOCl kill the influenza virus? Definitely! It can also kill anthrax bacilli, and, yes, HIV too.
Despite its high anti-microbial capacity, hypochlorous acid remains safe—so safe you can actually drink it. But you won’t do that with bleach!
In Japan, one of the biggest applications of HOCl is spraying it on sushi. And you can use it as a hand sanitizer at the same time. Its faint chlorine smell totally dissipates as soon as it dries up.
You can use it on fruits and vegetables to make them safer to eat and extend their shelf life. HOCl evaporates with water, so it leaves no residue behind.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency 27,000 hotel workers every year are harmed by harmful chemicals. Can you imagine?
What that means is that when we start taking away all of the bleach, quaternary ammonia, and all detergents, then we’ll have fewer people who get sick from exposure, fewer injuries, and less cost.
Because it possesses both effectiveness and gentleness, HOCl is a preferred disinfectant in the medical field for over a century. In fact, it is used to clean wounds in World War 1 before antibiotics were made available.
Today, daycare centers, hospitals, and even produce sections in grocery stores use it.
Although hypochlorous acid has been around for many years, the reason why it’s not as popular as bleach is because of its cost to manufacturers. It is cost prohibitive until recently.
HOCl is also less stable and dissipates over time. Thankfully, we now have an available technology that corrects this limitation. Today, it can remain stable for years and is a lot cheaper now to create.
Petra has used advanced technology to create the purest hypochlorous acid, that’s tested for effectiveness and stability.
